A MODEL PROGRAM FOR THE REST OF THE NATION
Excalibur is a private, non-profit all volunteer, charitable organization
dedicated to providing COST FREE adaptive boating and fishing opportunities for
disabled and disadvantaged persons. Its goal is to provide FREE and UNLIMITED
access to Lake Erie, as well as offer developmental, therapeutic and
recreational opportunities for Human Service Agency related programs and their
consumers.
Since 1985, many hard working Western New Yorkers have contributed considerable
time, effort, services, materials, and goodwill to this end. Great are the
numbers of people who have so generously supported this Program, because they
realize their need and responsibility to provide for the less fortunate in our
community.
Excalibur's broad and diverse base of Supporters have accomplished what many
said was impossible. With a lot of patience and hard work, the now retired
ADMIRAL P. R. LUCCI, the first of its kind, specially modified wheelchair
accessible boat, and the recently decommissioned FRANCIS J. PORDUM has given all manner
of disabled and disadvantaged the opportunity to freely enjoy access to a day of
boating and fishing on the open waters of our Great Lakes and adjacent
waterways. With perseverance against seemingly insurmountable odds, Excalibur
has greatly enhanced and benefited the entire Western New York Community.
Seasonally, since 1985, Excalibur has provided the Community with this
outstanding service which averages 5,600 hours of actual on the water
programming for 2,800 of our most needy neighbors. The Excalibur Program has
come a long way since its inception but there still remains a great deal of work
to be done. Excalibur needs YOU! People like yourselves, who can volunteer their
time and effort to work on various aspects of the Excalibur Program or those who
can contribute materials, service, or funds. The Western New York Community can
take pride in what they have accomplished ...
